When an immigrant enters the United States and does not know their birth date, they are often assigned the birth date of January 1st. Last weekend, our English Connection program celebrated all the January 1st birthdays with our partners at RefugeeConnect and the Junior League of Cincinnati. Over 100 people celebrated together in The Sanctuary with food from around the globe, birthday cake, wrapped presents gifted to each child, a photo booth, music, and video games, and more.
More than 150 students from 35 countries are expected to engage with our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes this year. Events like the Birthday Party, field trips to explore the Cincinnati area, and friendly soccer matches are just some of the ways that the program looks to go above and beyond just teaching English to create a welcoming community where all of our students can thrive.
